Host the 2026 MRFHL All-Star

2026-01-12

TORONTO, ON  —  The MRFHL Board of Directors announced today that submissions are open to host the 2026 MRFHL All-Star Game, presented by SimonT.

The MRFHL is coming off their most successful All-Star Game to date.  The 2025 edition was hosted by Toronto and set league records for attendance, participation and entertainment.  The trend-setting event was the brain-child of then rookie general manager Clayton Hansler who had a vision of 32 team engagement as the backbone for success at the annual festival of all-things MRFHL.  The MRFHL hopes that Toronto is just the start of a trend of new-era All-Star Games.

To aid in the continued development of the All-Star Game (and other MRFHL festivities yet to be announced) Clayton Hansler has been appointed as Executive Director, League Events by the MRFHL.  He will act as liaison for all teams interested in bidding on the event and a better-than-ai query tool for all All-Star related questions.

Submissions will be judged based on three main criteria:

FORMAT — 35%

The Board of Directors will look at both the creativity of the All-Star format as well as the practicality of carrying it out.  The traditional East vs West format might feel like the easiest solution, however how creative is a format that’s as old as the All-Star Game itself?  We might all want custom 3-on-3  teams that are simmed on NHL26, but without the ability to create custom three-aside teams the practicality of the idea won’t shine through.  Remember to include how the player pool will be identified, how the teams will be selected and how the game will be carried out (is it simmed on NHL or STHS, or do you want to go retro and roll out D&D die).

ENGAGEMENT — 50%

If an All-Star Game takes place and no one attends, did it even happen at all?  The MRFHL is searching to include and involve as many general managers as possible.  All-Star submissions will be judged on how the festivities engage the whole league during both the selection/management as well as the viewing/delivery of the event.  Will the All-Star game be hosted jointly between two neighbouring cities?  Or perhaps we’ll see each All-Star team managed by committee?  And when it comes to the big day, how will the host city draw as many of the league's general managers as possible?  The host GM is responsible for writing two articles (pre & post) but this is just the minimum.  Perhaps there is untapped potential for increasing league engagement that is yet to be seen.

PITCH — 15%

If you’re writing bullet points in a discord DM, don’t expect to net yourself these bonus points.  Put a little elbow grease into it.  You could build a powerpoint or make a video.  You could be like Tanner and write and perform a song (not that it helped with his free agent signing, sorry pal).  Whatever you decide, have some fun with it.  Add some photos or bribe the BOD, the world is your oyster.

The general manager who is awarded the All-Star Game (given they meet all the requirements through the event) will be awarded a draft pick to be selected between the fourth and fifth round of the upcoming 2026 MRFHL Entry Draft.  Just think, you could have your very own Chase Bradley just for hosting the All-Star Game.  It’s that easy.

Submissions must be received no later than 11:59pm EST, Saturday January 31st. The winning bid will be announced on Monday February 2nd with the MRFHL All-Star Game taking place during the Olympic Break (Feb 6-24).

Please direct all questions to Clayton Hansler, Dylan Wilson, or your favourite BOD member.
