Cory Schneider ready to assume starter role 2011-05-11 (AP) More than two years ago Ottawa engineering an 11th hour trade deadline deal that sent the ageless wonder Nicklas Lidstrom to Vancouver in return for Mason Raymond, Johnny Oduya and Cory Schneider. Lidstrom is still playing his 25 minute a game on the Vancouver blueline while both Oduya and Raymond took on starting roles for the Senators last year. But beginning next fall Schneider finally arrives wearing the Ottawa uniform #1, playing the past two season in Binghamton. "I have been biding my time, honing my skills, but I feel I am ready to start for Ottawa," Schneider said in an interview. He'll be pressed for starts by holdovers Brian Elliott and Scott Clemmensen, but clearly the starting goaltender role belongs to Schneider.
