An Average Start to the Season: 4-5-2 Through 11 Games

After 11 games, the Philadelphia Flyers have put together an average start to the season, posting a record of 4 wins, 5 losses, and 2 overtime losses. While the results have been inconsistent, several players have stepped up offensively.

Mason Marchment has been the team's leading scorer so far, recording 10 points in 11 games, with two goals and eight assists. His playmaking has been an important part of the offense, and his ability to create opportunities for teammates has helped keep the attack productive.

Thomas Novak sits just behind Marchment with nine points, including three goals and six assists. Novak has contributed both as a scorer and a setup man, giving the team another reliable offensive option early in the season.

Will Cuylle completes the trio and he has also made an impact, collecting seven points on five goals and two assists.

Together, Marchment, Novak, and Cuylle have combined for 26 points, offering a solid foundation for the team's offense. However, greater contributions throughout the lineup could be key to improving the team's results over the coming games.

In nets, Philly has made it obvious that they will continue a 3 goalie rotation with Sergei Bobrovsky, Clay Stevenson and Cooper Black. “We can’t send Clay Stevenson down to our farm team since we are 100% certain that Florida GM Dylan Wilson is waiting to scoop him up” said GM Belanger.

Through the first 11 games, Clay Stevenson has emerged as the team's leading goaltender in terms of games played and has put together encouraging numbers. In five appearances, Stevenson has recorded two wins and one loss, posting a 2.71 goals-against average and a .917 save percentage. Sergei Bobrovsky has appeared in four games, recording one win and two losses while having a 2.81 goals-against average and a .906 save percentage. Cooper Black has been having a harder time with 3 games played, 1 win 2 losses, a 3.00 goals-again average and a .862 save percentage.

On defence, Jalen Chatfield and Niko Mikkola have been getting big time minutes while showing that they are a good defensive complementary pair. Chatfield has 7 points (1 goal 6 assists) in 11 games played while Mikkola has 3 goals and 3 assists in the same amount of games.

A 4-5-2 record after 11 games is not a disastrous start, but it is certainly not the start the team would have hoped for. The two overtime losses indicate that at least some games have remained competitive deep into the contest, although the team has not always managed to secure the extra point or find a way to win.

Final Thoughts

Eleven games into the season, the team finds itself at a crossroads. The 4-5-2 record reflects a club that has shown some promise but has yet to put everything together consistently.

There is still plenty of hockey left to play…
