Flyers recap

2026-01-15

At the 45 games played mark, the Philadelphia Flyers are sitting 21st in the league standings with 135 goals scored and 137 goals against for 50 total points. The Flyers are 7-3-0 in their last 10 games.

The 1st line of Ryan Strome, Will Cuylle and Nino Niederreiter has been doing the brunt of the scoring. Ryan Strome has been leading the team as expected with 18 goals and 32 assists for 50 points in 45 games. Strome has been doing ok on the faceoffs with a 50.5 winning percentage. Will Cuylle has been showing lots of promise with 19 goals and 43 points in 45 games while leading the team with 6 powerplay goals. Nino Neiderreiter has shown he can bring some grit and completement better players with 15 goals and 33 points in 45 games.

The 4th line consisting of Joe Veleno, Justin Brazeau and Jesper Boqvist has been a huge surprise with their strong defensive play. They have a combined +35 in the + and – department which is pretty incredible if you think about it. Boqvist is showing decent secondary scoring with 9 goals and 17 points in 45 games. Brazeau and Veleno are both +13 with 16 points and 13 points.

In nets, veteran Sergei Bobrovsky has proven GM Belanger that he was right in making his acquisition last year back in May when Zach Dean was sent to Anaheim for him. Bobrovsky has won 13 games in 23 starts with 7 losses, a 2.65 goals against average and a 0.914 save percentage.

Top Prospect Anton Frondell was recently named top forward at the World Junior Championships with 8 points (5 goals and 3 assists) in 7 games. Frondell permitted Sweden of reaching the finals with his shootout heroics. Philadelphia’s management is anxious to see what he will become in the next couple of years and they are excited for his great future. Other top prospects Noah Ostlund and Michael Brandsegg-Nygard have been having decent seasons in their respective leagues. Ostlund has shown his scoring touch in the American Hockey League with 10 points in 7 games. Michael Brandsegg-Nygard has 23 points so far in 29 games in the AHL at only 20.

For the rest of the season, it’s undecided which way management will be heading as to the trading deadline, but it’s a given that they will likely try to swing a few deals (it seems fellow GM Boudreau is finding us very quiet on the trading front since October, maybe he wants to trade me Alexander Zharovsky ?)

Clayton Hansler

I heard that the GM in Toronto would be interested in re-acquiring their second round pick from Philly.
