A busy summer in Philly!

2025-09-04

It was a rather busy off-season for the Philadelphia Flyers in which GM Belanger decided to splash out and spend a lot of money in free agency. The plan was to make some changes during the off-season and try to be more competitive. Sergei Bobrovsky was the first piece brought along to stabilize a disappointing defense when prospect Zach Dean was traded for his services. Anton Frondell was drafted by Philadelphia very early in the entry draft and he has a very bright future ahead of him. Draft Day saw the Flyers make another splash with their acquisition of prospect David Reinbacher from the Detroit Red Wings for 4 draft picks in 2025 (18th, 25th, 37th and 75th). Right before free agency, GM Belanger pulled the plug on shedding some salary with the trades of Jaden Schwartz to Anaheim and Andreas Athanasiou to the Maple Leafs.

2025 Free Agency started off with the first of many signings for the Philadelphia Flyers : Nino Niederreiter was signed to a 4 year contract at 5,250,000$ per season. Next in line was the signing of Cody Ceci to a 20 million contract over 4 years. A couple of days after that, the Flyers brought back returning player Ryan Strome with a 4 year contract at 5,750,000$ per season. Strome will have a big role in Philadelphia when he will wear the C on his jersey. One day after that, GM Belanger splurged and overspent on some more players : big Jordan Greenway was signed to a 24 million contract for 4 seasons. The Flyers were then able to stabilize their defensive core with the signings of Jalen Chatfield to a 4 year contract at 5,450,000$ per season and also Trevor van Riemsdyk to a 3 year contract at 4,150,000$ per season. GM Belanger made some other more minor signings not long after that with the arrival of bottom 6 player Ryan Lomberg to a 2 year contract at 1,850,000$ per season and depth player Hudson Fasching to a 2 year contract at 875,000$ per year.

The Philadelphia Flyers likely won’t make the playoffs, but at least they will have a more competitive roster on the ice in this next upcoming season.
