Though lacking some secondary scoring punch on paper, the Toronto Maple Leafs are much more deeper, and skilled than last years team. GM Ron Dubin made the tough call of trading away star Corey Perry to land some valuable depth as well as made other deals to make a slow defence much more mobile with the additions of Mark Streit, Paul Martin and Karl Alzner. The Leafs also are starting to see some youth break into the lineup as Vincent Trocheck and Ryan Murray are pencilled in for the opening night roster. In net, Toronto has recently acquired Jonas Hiller as a rental to lead the way while Braden Holtby recovers from a down NHL season. This doesn't mean that the Leafs have given up on such a promising talent like Holtby, but are nearing a win-now mode and realize that goaltending is an important, if not the most important position in the game. GM Dubin feels confident that the tandem of Hiller and Holtby along with a bunch more defensively minded forwards and a better D will help keep the team afloat until they can acquire the nessicary secondary scoring they desire.
