Hawks send Spurgeon to Phoenix. 2013-11-08 As expected, the Chicago Blackhawks parted ways with one of their talented young defenceman yesterday. With the teams ridiculous depth on the back end it was only a matter of time before someone was dealt. That someone turned out to be Jared Spurgeon, "It was very tough to move Jared, I am a huge fan of the way he plays the game and have been since we drafted him two years ago. He is going to go on and have an excellent career in this league, of that I have no doubt" said GM Semonick. That said the Hawks have a bevy of talented young dmen on the roster, and scores more in the system. With the likes of Cowen, Dekeyser, Pysyk, Lindholm, Tanev, Gormley, and several others NHL ready it became clear the team would need to move a defenceman. Spurgeon was dealt to Phoenix for two high upside young forwards, Jimmy Hayes and Luke Adam. Both players bring excellent size and scoring ability to the table, and both will immediately join the Hawks farm team in Rockford. It is expected they will compete for depth roles within the next 2 seasons. It also appears the Hawks are still looking to move a defenceman, and names like Kevin Shattenkirk, Braydon Coburn, and Tyler Myers are being floated around. It is also rumoured the team is willing to move Cowen or Gormley, the two biggest prizes of their prospect dmen, to acquire a high end forward.
