Bruins Making Moves

2012-01-31

What was turning out to be a promising year to contend has turned into a big disappointment so far. With the off season signing of Ryan Miller and acquisition of Shea Weber at trade deadline last year the Bruins were in the same conversations as the New York Islanders, Vancouver Canucks and Chicago Blackhawks. Instead of being contenders this year it seems the Bruins are looking like pretenders. Fast forward the first 32 game of the season and the Bruins look dysfunctional and uncoordinated on the ice. Ryan Miller has not performed up to expectations and to no fault of his own the defense has been shaky at best. With so much firepower up front the defense should not have to be relied upon as much but the big guns have gone cold. Despite bringing in bigger guns the Boston Bruins continue to languish at the bottom of the MRFHL standings.  Speculation has it that the influx of new players and attitudes has caused conflicting personalities within the dressing room. GM Valente was quick to dismiss this notion. “That’s non-sense, everyone of those players in that dressing room is a professional and we expect them to come to work everyday and give it their all.”  Despite his remarks it did little to quell recent trade speculation.

Though the season is still young and optimism remains high within the city that the team can turn it around, the Bruins GM has no desire to wait for things to work out on their own. “Sometimes you need to send a message.”

In less than 48 hours GM Valente traded highly skilled defensemen PK Subban to the Ottawa Senators, along with a 3rd round pick in 2012. In exchange the Bruins received Travis Hamonic and a 1st round pick in the upcoming 2012 draft. Keeping true to his team blue-print the Bruins continue to add to their deep stable of prospects through the draft. With a young nucleus of Toews, P.Kane, Tavares, Marchand, E.Kane and Weber there is no doubt the Boston hopefuls have all the reasons in the world to be patient and optimistic.
